Tools to Grow Your Skills

As you’ve probably noticed, I’m a big fan of finding new knowledge about material handling and logistics and I like to share it with you when I find it in these blog posts, the weekly newsletters and on  the Toolkit page, devoted to providing useful information.

With Promat coming up, I thought it would be a good time to share some resources with you and help you grow your knowledge further.

Promat 2015

If you’re coming to Chicago to attend Promat, you should take some time out from collecting swag and listening to the pitches at the booths to attend some of the 100 free educational sessions that will be presented.

You can find a list of the available sessions here.

The Material Handling Institute and the Rack Manufacturers Institute both have significant resources available for learning more about rack and other material handling systems and much of it is available online.

Check them out:

RMI Frequently Asked Questions
This link provides excellent information from the manufacturers themselves.  Be sure to scroll to the bottom and check out the links in the gray bar for expanded details.

MHI Fundamentals
Another excellent resource, even though it’s a bit basic.  I’ve started you out on the rack fundamentals page but be sure to explore the other areas as well.  You can learn about everything from AS/RS to Industrial Robots.  Be sure and check out the Glossary too.  It’s a great resource if you run into something you’re not familiar with.

MHEDA University

If you’re a member of the Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association (and you are, aren’t you?), MHEDA University offers a wide-range of continuing education options.

With webinars, conferences, on-demand videos, and free online education, there are opportunities to learn at your own pace and within any budget.

Learn more about what’s available here.

I hope these resources are useful to you both today and going forward.

If you are attending Promat in March, remember that DAK is only about a half hour outside the city and we’d love to have you stop by for a visit.  If you’re interested, please give me a call at 630-516-1115 extension 238 or email me at
